Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies (20/11/2009 - 29/11/2009)
With a strong sense of play and starting point the musical themes after the so-named ballet of Sergei Prokofiev we have tried to research this old-almost ancient- myth. Our goal is not to transfer on stage the entire work since a stage transcription with references to the modern political, social and psychological facts would entrap the performance in the dramatic material of the play. Yet, Prokofiev’s music itself has led us to the ‘de-dramatisation’ of the play and being the moving force of our research work, has helped emerge the lyrical and romantic element of the main theme, love, together with other aspects of the play that function contrastively such as loss, decay and death.[…] Antonis Foniadakis
