The National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG) and the Postgraduate Programme in Performing Arts of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) are co-organising the 1st Inter-Balkan Conference in the field of Performing Arts, under the theme "Creation of an Inter-Balkan Network of Performing Arts: Terms and Conditions". The conference will take place in Thessaloniki, at the Foyer of the Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, on Sunday 16 & Monday 17 March 2025.
This conference marks the beginning of an initiative that aspires to become a landmark event for the Performing Arts in the Balkans, providing a forum for artists and academics from across the region to engage in dialogue, foster collaboration, and promote cultural exchange.
Through this initiative, the aim is to develop a comprehensive network of performing arts, encouraging interaction among its members, the exchange of ideas and experiences, and the creation of joint artistic ventures.
Objectives of the Conference
:
Establishing an annual conference leading to the creation of a hybrid theoretical and practical annual festival.
Connecting artists and academics in the field of Performing Arts.
Strengthening collaboration among Balkan countries.
Facilitating the exchange of cultural ideas and works with the goal of shaping joint cultural initiatives.
Creating an institutional framework that will support inter-Balkan cultural interaction.
The conference will feature speeches, panel discussions, presentations, and theatrical performances, with online participation and live streaming available. This will allow speakers and attendees to follow and engage with the event remotely.

Distinguished members of the academic community and prominent representatives of the Performing Arts from various Balkan countries will present their views through lectures, announcements, and discussion panels.
Additionally, theatrical performances will be presented by students of the NTNG Drama School and the National University of Theatre and Film (I.L. Caragiale UNATC) in Bucharest.
The conference will conclude with the presentation of the volume Contemporary Perspectives on Greek Theatre, a significant collaboration between the Postgraduate Programme "Performing Arts" at HOU and the academic journal "CONCEPT" of the National University of Theatre and Film (I.L. Caragiale UNATC) in Bucharest.
