“Journey into Ancient Theatre... ex machina” Εducational programme for students of secondary education Venue: Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies Οpening: 27 Νοvember 2023
Presentations for High Schools: Monday (10:00)
“Journey into Ancient Theatre... ex machina” is an educational programme which aims to familiarize schoolchildren in secondary education with ancient drama through interactive exercises that employ technology. The activity forms part of “Prometheus”, a programme which seeks to preserve historical NTNG performances of ancient drama via an immersive augmented reality space in which the public can interact with, experience and participate in the material. Students have the opportunity to try out the new technical possibilities of the dynamic tools and relive important ancient drama productions. In addition, they learn about historical performances and what the different on-stage objects do, interact with virtual objects via an augmented reality environment and learn about the building blocks of drama. They are then given the opportunity to combine the above elements in practice to produce a short action snapshot/tableau.
There is also a guided tour of the “Traces of the ephemeral” exhibition at the Royal (Vasiliko) Theatre, which allows the students to take an up-close look at superb costumes from important productions staged at the NTNG since its opening in 1961. “Prometheus” programme is realized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece in collaboration with the University of Patras and IRIDA Labs and funded by the Partnership Agreement Operational Programme “Central Macedonia 2014-2020” (ESPA 2014-2020).
