A public debate on Presidential Decree 85/2022 and the issue of education in the arts in Greece Date: 5 February 2023 Venue: Foyer of the Society for Macedonian Studies The defining of the qualifications artists require to be appointed to the public sector, and specifically the decision to equate the diplomas awarded by the nation’s drama schools with high school diplomas, has provoked angry reactions from the artistic community and prompted sit-ins at the drama schools of the NTNG, the National Theatre and the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras. The Artistic Directorate of the NTNG, the Director of the Drama School, and its teaching staff have declared their support for the protests currently being staged at these institutions, and call on the state to reconsider the provisions of the recent decree.
Wishing to join in the conversation, the National Theatre of Northern Greece is organizing a public discussion with representatives from the arts and from education with a view to highlighting this crucial issue for education in the arts in Greece along in tandem with the recent political developments that have impacted directly on artists in our country.
