The Dead Brother's Lament

2000-2001 National Theatre of Northern Greece
The Dead Brother's Lament
Opening: Lazaristes Monastery - Sokratis Karantinos Stage, 30/11/2000

A popular play, a great show for the people, based on variations of the homonymous folk song from Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, and Romania. Story-telling, lamentations about immigration and marriage, pagan festivities, funeral processions, reminiscences and invocations, hymns and psalms put together a panorama of Greek and Balkan life. The writings and music from traditions handed down over the centuries all become part of this performance - ritual.
