Τhe National Theatre of Northern Greece, one of the country’s most important cultural institutions, is setting up an interactive Centre for the Performing Arts for visitors to the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair. “NTNG: A 60-Year Journey into the Light” has been a labour of love for our city’s Arts community, the staff of the NTNG. “We want to acquaint visitors with the work of people who have been making history for 60 years now. People who devoted their life and soul to the theatre, creating visually stunning, high-quality cultural productions down the decades, no matter the obstacles and difficulties placed in their way, putting classic and avant-garde masterpieces of the world theatre repertoire, subversive productions and unique artistsand technicians from every theatre speciality on and behind the stage”, notes the Artistic Director of the NTNG, Nikos Kolovos—who first envisioned our Theatre reaching out to the public for the duration of the International Fair. Unique costumes from iconic productions staged over six decades by our Theatre, which opened its doors to the public for the first time on 13 January 1961, interact with digitized recordings and artefacts from theatre productions which have gone down in history, others which took part in Greece’s most important festivals of theatre this summer, and others still that will be staged this coming season at the Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, the Vasiliko Theatre, Lazaristes Monastery, and in the foyer and stages of the Forest and Earth Theatres.
