Nionios Nionakis goes away from Zante where he is 'threatened' by poverty and earthquakes coming to Athens to find a job in the house of lawyer Valdi, a compatriot who he also left the island enjoying the bourgeois life in the capital. The presence of the shrewd man from Zante in the bourgeois home is catalytic: we see him taking initiatives in various questions, to intervene well-disposed in the secrets of the family to sing and dance entertaining with his soul till the moment that his nostalgy for the island becomes so commanding prompting him quickly to take the decision of return back. 'The flower of Levante' is a nostalgy play. His hero feels nostalgy for the island he left, as Xenopoulos feels nostalgy too, who when he writes this play, he has been away from it for 30 years.
