“The Lover of the Shepherdess” is the ultimate love story. It is set in the Greek countryside and its main characters are shepherdesses and shepherds, chief shepherds and countrywomen, rich and poor, young and old, all confused in a tangle of love, passion, misunderstandings, secrets and reversals. Written by Dimitrios Koromilas in decapentasyllabic verse and highlighted by the legendary song «Mia voskopoula agapisa, mia zilemeni kori» (“I fell in love with a shepherdess, a pretty attractive daughter”), the play refers to our lost innocence, touches with its originality and remains all-time great. From 1891 that it was first presented, the dramatic idyll “The Lover of the Shepherdess” is one of the most loved plays of the Greek repertoire. The National Theatre of Northern Greece has staged it just once, in 1974, directed by Kostis Mihailidis. This summer, it is directed anew by the ingenious Stamatis Fassoulis, whose name alone is enough to guarantee a brilliant, tender and bold approach to the play. With him, great collaborators: Manolis Pantelidakis (sets and costumes), Thodoris Ekonomou (music), Dimitris Papazoglou (choreography) and Sakis Birbilis (lighting). The NTNG in this performance welcomes back its protagonist, Filareti Komninou, after 13 years of absence! Also starring Taxiarhis Hanos, Efi Stamouli, Kostas Santas, Dimitris Kolovos and a troupe of 35 actors.
