Born in Drama, in 1945, settled down in 1960 with his family in Athens, where he finished high school and studied literature. He served his military service in the Navy (1968-1970). He continued his literary studies in Universities of Rome (1970-72), Essex (1972-73) and Cambridge (1974-79). From1980 till1991 he taught Modern Greek Literature as a Specialized Professional, as Assistant Professor and as Deputy Professor in School of Philosophy of Crete University. From 1992 he is Professor of Theory and Critique of Literature in the Department of Theatre Studies, Athens University. His poetic work includes the books: ''Field of Mars'' (Diogenis 1974, Gnosi 1982), ''Biography'' (Kedros 1976), ''Roxani's Knees'' (Kedros 1981), ''Wandering of a non-traveller'' (Kedros 1986), ''The Fall of the Flying'' (Stigmi 1989), ''Barbarous Odes'' (Kedros 1992), ''The Fall of the Flying B'' (Parousia 1997), ''Dark Ballads and Other Poems''(Kedros 2001), ''Stefanos'' (Kedros 2004 State Poetry Prize ).He has published the following works in prose: ''The sintechnia'' (Kedros 1976, Stigmi 1987) and the ''Labyrinth of Silence'' (Kedros 1982), and he has written essays and surveys such as ''The Poet and the Dancer'' (Kedros 1979), ''The dress of Goddess'' (Stigmi 1988), ''Poetry and Translation''(Stigmi 1989), ''The Ironical Language'' (Stigmi1994), ''Notes from the end of the Century'' (Kedros 1999), ''Post-Modernism and Literature ''(Polis 2002), ''The transformation of Karyotakis'' (Indiktos 2005). In 2005 he was awarded with the State Poetry Prize for his poetic collection ''Stefanos''
