“Phaedra’s Atopos” by Dimitra Mitta
Directed by: Antonis Karagiannis Venue: Foyer of the Society for Macedonian Studies Dates: 23 - 26 November 2023 Rating: 12+ Duration: 65min
A prohibited love. A revenge story… The tragedy… The dark side of the myth. The winged cupid and its harmful consequences. Extreme feeling’s extreme actions.
A recital for two soloists. A musician and an actress. The show brings to the fore and attempts to shed light on the dark side of the Phaedra myth. To compare yesterday with today and tomorrow. How much does fate direct us? Do we have a share of responsibility for our choices after all? What does “morality” mean and how is it shaped over the centuries? Are we going backwards or forwards? In the age of artificial intelligence would we condemn her? Questions that the anti-heroine Phaedra herself asks herself, in a desperate attempt to explain the twists of her life. An unreal reality is revealed as she unravels her story, literally acrobatic, to the sounds of evocative live music. Phaedra speaks for Phaedra with all that entails. Lyricism, humor, cynicism, realism, tragedy in a delirious rhythm.
