The action of the satiric comedy 'A lost letter' takes place on the eve of the elections in the capital of a mountain prefecture of Romania. Miss Zoe, wife of Zaharia Trahanache, nominee of the 'conservative' governing party, loses a love letter that the perfect Tipatescu sends her. The letter arrives in Catavencu hands, nominee of the ''progressive'' party, undertaking to use it extortionately in order to be elected. But the letter it is lost again. A series of blackmails following the adventures of the love letter constitute the plot of the comedy and through the created comic situations the writer satirizes the undermining of the political and social manners of his time in Romania.
