The play moves in an atmosphere of confusion, doubt, corruption, betrayal, chaos and destruction. The love story of the two principal characters is taking place within the very well known context of the Trojan War. But not the Trojan War of Homer but another one, lacking heroism and glory. The Greeks and the Trojans incarnate the two basic opponent forces, mind and feeling, conscious and subconscious. The Greeks belong to the world of public life and rigid, impersonal logic, detached from every feeling and vision, while Troy is a dirty society, governed by instinct, a society of corruption and vice.
