In 'Mother courage and Her Children', the mother, the principal figure of the play, is the incarnation and the representation of people, in their martyr route towards the flames of the war. Her profile is anti -heroic but deeply human: with an intense feeling of self-preservation, a business aptitude, and an infallible intuition, she derides and reveals mercilessly the motives and the goals of the strong men, which transform peace to death. An anti-war play, deeply analytic, and revealing the causes of wars, which shows the accomplice 'ignorance' of the conflicted, the unavoidable ethical and economical results and the essential lack of winners. From the beginning of the play, we see the unwillingness and the opposition of people in rallying, the disorientated ideology and corrupted psychology of the powerful and their orderlies, the impasse of the war and the leveling of the ethical values by the wild aggressiveness and the instinct of self-preservation.
