In terms of the programme “Cultural Crossroads” by the Ministry of Culture, the National Theatre of Northern Greece presents a series of May performances with topics inspired by the cultural relations connecting the peoples of Greece and Middle East. The “Cultural Crossroads” is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, aiming at the development of a series of actions undertaken by the cultural and productive bodies of Thessaloniki which will reinforce the city’s cultural profile and help its outward character emerge. The concept of the project boils down to the creation of a cultural calendar which will coordinate all cultural bodies of Thessaloniki in an attempt to emphasize the hospitality, promotion and production of the cultural work concerning one or more of the honored countries and their civilization. At the same time, several activities will be held both by the productive bodies of the city (tourist offices, the International Fair of Thessaloniki) and its university institutions. The choice of Thessaloniki as a host city is based on its unique position on the map as the natural harbour of South-east Europe, its long tradition as a historical crossroads of Culture and its multi-cultural profile.
