The 'Matchmaker', well known in the Greek public from the film 'Hello Dolly', with Barbara Streizand, is a story of loves, marriages and comic situations. As the writer points out, its subject is an endless series of trouble, leading to happy ends. The play is a farce in a traditional style, which uses many common tricks, used by writers of the time of Aristophanes: wrong recognitions of persons, men disguised as women, lost wallets etc. As the title says, the principal character of the play is the match-maker, an intelligent and pleasant woman who makes a lot of jobs to survive while her main profession is the match-making. However she is also a widow and so in all the matchmakings that we see her doing in the play she also prepares her own marriage.
