Strindberg leads through a dreamy journey Indra's daughter on earth, to see how people live. There he discovers how difficult their life is and how harder it becomes when they are obliged to do harm to the others so as to live themselves. The whole play imitates the incoherent, but in appearance, logical form of the dream, where everything can happen, as laws of time and space have been abolished.
