He is the first translator of Franz Kafka and other, central-European writers mainly, in Greece. He belongs to the pleiad of literary men of the mid -war generation, having European orientation. He was born in 1904 in Epanomi and died in September 1990 in Thessaloniki. He always signed his texts as Dim. St.Dimou. His full name is: Dimitrios Stavrou Dimou. In 1922 he goes for pharmaceutical Studies to Marbourg, completing his studies though in Gratz(1923-1928), and taking his degree as a pharmacist in 1931 from the same University. In 1939, he was hired by Bayer, in Thessaloniki branch and from there in 1950 transferred to Athens office, as director of the scientific department of the same company till 1972, when he retired. We have systematic publications of his translations since 1934. In 1954 the Syropoulou editions published the translation of the play ''The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge'' by Rilke. He also translated and published in books the following works by Rainer Maria Rilke: ''Duino Elegies'' (1975) and after his death (1991), ''The Lay of the Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke'', by the Editions Cheirographa. In 1983 was also published, editions Konstantinidis, a selection from the poetic play of Georg Trackl ''Poetries'' (second edition Rodakio, 1993), whom he also first presented in Greece in 1950, as well as Paul Celan in 1959, in magazines Morfes and Diagonios, respectively . In 1985, ''The Lepre by Rudolf Kasner'', is published by Nea Poreia and in 1986 the ''Little Tragedies and Prose'' by Hugo Von Hoffmannsthal. By the same publishers we have after his death in 1993, the tragedy ''Sea Battle'' by Reinhard Gairingk. His ''Dream Collection'' (Oneirologio) started being written in 1942, then , interrupted for a certain period and was continued for another twenty years as from 1963.
