Christos Passalis was born in Thessaloniki. He graduated from the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece. On screen, he has taken part in the following films: Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos (Prix Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2009, nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards);  Homeland (Venice 2010) and The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea (Berlin 2019) by Syllas Tzoumerkas;  Black Field (Karlovy Vary IFF 2010) by Vardis Marinakis; and  History's Future by Fiona Tan.

In the theatre, having worked with a number of directors, he co-founded the blitz theatre group in 2004. He has written, directed and performed in all the company's productions to date, which have been presented at the Théâtre de la Ville, the Schaubühne, the Festival d' Avignon, Onassis Stegi, the Greek National Opera, and numerous other theatres and theatre festivals around the world. His most recent stage productions include his collaboration with the Luzerner Theater in Switzerland where, in collaboration with Angeliki Papoulia, he directed Euripides' Alceste, Dürrenmatt's The Visit of the Old Lady, and Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.

The film The City and the City, which he co-directed with Syllas Tzoumerkas, received its world première in the Encounters programme at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival and its North American première among the New Directors/New Films presented by MOMA and the Lincoln Center. His first feature film ISYHIA 6-9  premièred in the Official Competition at the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and continues to be screened at festivals around the world.
