On Sunday, February 7th, from 10.00 until 18.00, Thessaloniki’s heart will beat at the Society for Macedonian Studies at the
Third Big Day
of 2015-2016 theatre season dedicated to
William Shakespeare
.
The National Theatre of Northern Greece participates at “Shakespeare Lives” -British Council’s global programme of events and activities, celebrating the world’s most popular playwright’s work on the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016- with two productions: “
Romeo and Juliet on the road
”, directed by
Stelios Hatziadamidis
for
NTNG Youth Stage
and “
Macbeth
”, translated into Greek by
Dimitris Dimitriadis
and directed by
Anastasia Revi
, at the
Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies

Theatre educators, directors, actors, academics and playwrights will participate in NTNG’s Third Big Day, with research papers, narrations, readings and dramatised texts, all sharing the same objective: the public’s deeper acquaintance with William Shakespeare, the virtuoso of tragedy and comedy.
Big Day Shakespeare Programme
Theatre workshop for professional actors “When the mind meets the emotion and the emotion the mind. Man in the centre of Shakespeare”
Using as material for exploration monologues and scenes from “Twelfth Night”, “Hamlet” and “Othello”, the workshop explores the world of the great poet through the structure of the language, the atmosphere created and the “sculpture” in his approach of the complexity of human nature.

Theatre workshop for Drama School students “Shakespeare’s sonnets”
Anastasia Revi dramatizes Shakespeare’s sonnets using her method.
There will be a presentation of the workshop’s outcome by the participants.

Theatre workshop for young people (aged 14-17 years old) “For a Romeo and a Juliet”
Reading Shakespeare in a youthful and contemporary way, we grab pencils, climb on chairs and discuss on a Romeo and a Juliet ... on the road!

Psychodrama for adults “Magic potions”
In Shakespeare’s plays, the heroes often metamorphose, at critical moments, using magic potions. Utilizing psychodramatic techniques, this workshop’s participants will be able to discover their own “magic potion” and come in contact with spontaneity and creativity.

Theatre workshop for children (aged 5-8 years old) “A trip to a dream!”
Theatre, music, movement workshop. A letter and a magic potion initiate a fantastic trip in a distant forest. Along with Shakespeare’s heroes, children experience different characters and situations, employing their imagination and creativity. They are called to work together as a team to reach their goal.

Theatre workshop for children (aged 9-11 years old) “Exploring relationships with my family and my environment through Shakespeare”
Human relationships and especially those developed within a family is a recurring theme in many of Shakespeare’s plays. This workshop explores different kinds of relationships with the help of the work of the great playwright, aiming to help children express themselves creatively and recognize the value of relationships from the days of Shakespeare until today.

The young people of NTNG’s theatre workshops associate their work with the performances “Romeo and Juliet on the road” and “Macbeth”.

Presentation “Interview with a Shakespearean hero”
Journalists Maria Ampatzi, Lemonia Vasvani, Ioannis Kyfonidis and Alexandra Chatzigeorgiou become writers. Through their texts they interview Hamlet, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, playing a familiar role, that of the journalist.

A presentation by the participants of Anastasia Revi’s workshop for Drama School students.
NTNG’s Artistic Director, Mr. Yannis Anastasakis will open the presentation, reading Shakespeare’s sonnets.

Presentation “Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare - an object theatre approach from “a! katalachou” team”
The main scenes of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” come alive through object theatre and live music. A foot theatre puppet and three bunraku puppets perform the play’s main roles and narrate the tragic fate of the two young people from Verona.

Cinematic Shakespeare
Thessaloniki Cinema Museum-Film Library presents the same scene from three film versions of the same Shakespearean play. Three versions of the same play.
