THE “2ND MEETING OF YOUNG ARTISTS OF SOUTHEAST EUROPE –
ANCIENT DRAMA AND POLITICS” HAS BEGUN
Approach of the comic

 
At the “2nd Meeting of Young Artists of Southeast Europe”, organized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece, as part of the International Network of Ancient Drama, the concept of the comic element, its nature, its characteristics, its prerequisites for its existence in comedy, in satyr drama even in tragedy will be analysed.
   
Focusing on Aristophanes −an expert in the creation of comic situations− all the comic techniques will be used: the comic of the situation, the comic of the characters, the comic of the text and the comic of the stage techniques.
 
The aim of the meeting is to link the past with the present and the future, through a series of actions, such as workshops, presentations, masterclasses, discussions and lectures in which young people from southeast Europe participate.
 
During the “2nd Meeting of Young Artists of Southeast Europe”,  a series of events (actions, presentations, discussions and lectures) will take place with free admission to the public. Also, three foreign productions will be staged with Greek and English surtitles. More specifically, these performances will be:
 
“Socrates, the Survivor / Just like leaves” (Italy)

An “Anagoor Company” performance
 
“Antigone” (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Tuesday 25 September, at 21:00
Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies
Performance by students of the final year of the Academy of Arts of the University of Banja Luka
 
“The Phoenician Women” by Euripides (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Thursday 27 September, at 21:00
Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies
A performance by the National Theatre of Sarajevo
 
After the performances, there will be a discussion with the audience.
The performances will have Greek and English surtitles.

General admission to the performances: €5
The admission to the actions (presentations, discussions, lectures) is free.

A performance based on the novel “Il Sopravvissuto” by Antonio Scurati and inspired by the work of Plato, Cees Nooteboom and Georges I. Gurdjieff.
 
Director’s Note
In an era such as ours, characterised by whirlwind changes, the question of education seems to have become both a marginal issue and an insurmountable mountain, constantly and insufficiently bypassed by partial school reforms which understate the role of teachers and pupils as well as the very process of knowledge.
With “Socrates, the Survivor”, Anagoor enters a classroom in a school just like many others. It does so by following the pages of the novel “Il sopravvissuto” by Antonio Scurati, assuming the point of view of those whose place is before a group of youngsters, charged with their education. This is not a theatrical adaptation of the novel: some of the book’s most emblematic pages intertwine with other stories, other words, other dimensions of time: in this case the final moments of Socrates’ life, surrounded by his disciples before being sentenced to death.
