Nth dance company’s new production, eiar [ἔαρ] (2024), created by Nadia Koutziampasi, is her own, idiosyncratic rendering of The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du Printemps), totally revised and significantly relocated to a Greek space-time. Drawing upon age-old native traditions and practices, this work explores ancient vernal symbolisms, myths, and rituals that survive to this day, focussing on core themes and concepts, such as those of sacrifice, rebirth, and fertility.
The current version, especially set up for the 10th Forest Festival by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG), is performed by 6 company members, accompanied, in certain scenes, by a group of individuals who participated in a special preparatory workshop for this particular event.
The sound environment is formed by recorded material (birdsongs), sounds produced on stage, and live music comprising improvisations upon traditional themes by a couple of clarinets.
