The National Theater of Northern Greece participation in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (20/11/2015)
The National Theater of Northern Greece participation in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
Vassiliko Theatre
Wednesday 25/11/2015, 21.00 p.m.
Free entrance
The National Theater of Northern Greece in collaboration with the
General Secretariat for Gender Equality
and the Women’s Counselling Centre in Thessaloniki organizes an event on the occasion of the
International day for the elimination of violence against women
on Wednesday, 25 November 2015, at 21.00 p.m. The event will take place on the Central Stage of Vassiliko Theatre.
The representative of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality in the Regional Committee of the Region of central Macedonia, Mrs Nana Panagiotou, will give an introductory speach.
Passages from various texts related to women abuse will be read in this event, notably:
a. “The Defence of Theophilos Tsafos” by Nikos Koundouros.
b. “He wears a suit” by Elisavet Chronopoulou.
c. “The Story of Anne” by Lenore Walker.
d. “Kristella” by Maria Tsima.
Texts will be read by NTNG actors: Momo Vlachou, Charis Papadopoulos, Polyxeni Spyropoulou and Christos Stylianou.
There will also be a screening of “The noir project” a film by Gregory Vardarinos in relation to the subject of women abuse, starring NTNG actors. Gregory Vardarinos lives and creates films in Thessaloniki (duration: 26 minutes).
Following this, there will be an open conversation with the public coordinated by a psychologist of the Women’s Counselling Centre in Thessaloniki.
Far from remaining a simple spectator, the National Theatre of Northern Greece wishes to give voice to the problem. It is important to raise public awareness on this cycle of family violence or violence within a relationship. The problem of women abuse is independent of the educational, financial or social level – also it has nothing to do with nationality, race, or religion; that’s why we should find a way of informing everybody. With the deepening of the financial crisis, the cycle of violence is reaching its climax.
The first step towards the solution of the problem is to recognize its existence.
