The play is written between the years 1626-1633. Its basic theme is a history of incest between brother and sister, leading them to denial of their social environment and head on conflict with it, resulting finally to death. The brother stabs the pregnant sister, tears her heart, stick it to a knife and invades an anniversary dinner, offering the heart as a dish to the dinner's guests. The forbidden love between the brother and sister it is not for Ford nothing but the pretext to reveal the rottenness of the Renaissance society, which imposed this prohibition. This highest cultural level is revealed as a society hermetically sealed and rational, with only values money and evolution, a society who can't love but only conquer or kill.
