One of the most famous tragedies of the ancient Greek Theatre. The play is about the well-known myth of the woman who kills her children to revenge her husband Jason who has abandoned her to marry another woman. At the same time the play moves in various levels obtaining also political meanings. Medea is a woman belonging to the third non-civilized world. She has come from Asia where she was a princess, and suddenly, here, in the country of civilization, she gets informed that, as a woman, is inferior. They behaved to her and her children as to slaves. She knows that they have not any hope to survive if they do not obey and for that reason she kills them. The director Minos Volonakis says for Medea: 'She is the barbarous woman, repressed by her husband, the matricide, who held by mania, confronts Jason. A woman from an inferior race, a foreigner in a foreign civilization, hiding inside her the fear of humiliation. Medea is but a revolutionary as all the women in ancient tragedies and comedies'.
