Playwriting Competitions Results (01/10/2015)

The Εvaluation Board of the plays submitted to the two competitions announced by the National Theatre of Northern Greece for writing an original theatrical play inspired by the whole or a part of Stratis Tsirkas’ trilogy “Drifting Cities” and for the theatrical adaptation of Nikos Bakolas’ novel “Violation”, after examining the texts, resulted in the following conclusion:

The board decided that neither of the three (3) plays on the trilogy “Drifting Cities” and the seven (7) plays on the novel “Violation” submitted to the competition, meets the requirements for the award or for a stage representation.

The board, however, selected two texts, one for each competition, in order to encourage the authors to continue their effort in playwriting:

“The Exit (Drifting Cities)” by Dimitris Kalavris, submitted under the pen name T. Beligiannis. The text demonstrates originality in concept, flows naturally and its characters are brought to life eloquently.

“Violation: Rehearsals for a performance” by Antonis Gianakou, submitted under the pen name Angela K. The text uses the concept of "a play within a play", transposes the plot to the modern day and features interesting characters.

Members of the Evaluation Board:
  • Karina Ioannidou, theatrical writer
  • Maria Karadeloglou, theatre designer
  • Petros Kokozis, theatre scientist
  • Nikiforos Papandreou, theatre scientist, professor emeritus, AUTH.
