A play of the little daily pains, human pride, vanity and lost dignity. The characters are simple men of everyday life, living in misery, in dull and melancholic reality of a province in Russia at the end of 19th century, struggling to obtain back their lost dignity. The basic canvas of the play, describes the love story of two sensitive young people of the Russian province, and the way with which the conditions of the environment shatter their dreams and ambitions. Chekhof enriches the simple myth with parallel behaviors, interior conflicts and love triangles.
