Pemy Zouni is “Blanche Dubois” in “A Streetcar Named Desire”


Pemy Zouni will cooperate for the first time with the National Theatre of Northern Greece during the winter season starring in the classical masterpiece of Tennessee Williams “A Streetcar Named Desire” directed by Antonis Kalogrides.  This play is staged for the first time by the N.T.N.G.

 

Tennessee Williams, one of the most outstanding playwrights of the post-war generation in America, wrote “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 1947.  The play was staged that same year in Broadway directed by Elias Kazan starring Marlon Brando and Tzesika Tandie.  The latter was awarded the Pulitzer prize.  On the Greek Stage, the role of Blanche Dubois has been played by Nonika Galinea and Katia Dandoulaki, among others.

 

“A Streetcar Named Desire” describes one summer from the tragic life of Blanche Dubois in the humid and erotic American South.  A streetcar full of people and dreams; Blanche and her sister, Stella Dubois, Stanley Kowalski with the arrogance of a man who only knows how to be loved, the immature and indecisive Mitsch

 

The opening of the performance will be in February 2008, on the stage of the Society of Macedonian Studies.
