Break-dance festival
Battle of the Year Balkans 2012 is celebrating 10 years since it first started in our country. This year’s championship is a co-production with
National Theatre of Northern Greece and welcomes groups from all Balkan countries that share the same dream; to conquer the ticket that will allow them to participate in the final round of the competition that will take place in France, Montpellier on 17 November. Which will be the best performance? We will find out on May 26 when three of the best judges worldwide will tell us;
Roxrite, from the US, Red Bull Bc One 2011 world champion,
Lil Kev, the miracle child from France, and
Storm, the marvelous dancer from Germany. This year’s guests include famous dancers from France
Joseph Go and Romss, who will also judge the Bounce Streetdance Contest that will take place the next day. The festival will take place in one of the most beautiful areas of Thessaloniki, namely
Vassiliko Theatre. Our special dance shows will be performed by
Funky Habbits, last year’s winners of the Bounce. Moreover, two of the most talented couples in Greece,
B.A.D. Eye and
Da Yonkers will present two shows prepared exclusively for the audience of the festival. Our special guest this year is the
12th Monkey, who promises to make us all excited with his performance.
DJ’s Kid Stretch and
D-mice, will be on the decks with us, and the show will be presented by
Τzony Terra. Together with the two day festival, we will also host dance seminars, warm up and after parties, market area and cloth exchange.
This year’s festival of
Βattle of the year Βalkans 2012 is a co-production with National Theatre of Northern Greece. Students of NTNG’s Drama School will present their own version, directed by
Sotiris Hatzakis, NTNG’s artistic director, on
Sunday 27th May, the second day of the festival.
Battle of Shake-spears, a modern version of Montague versus Capulet, will be presented by the students. It is a theatre act that entangles Shakespeare with a street dance culture and the battles of fencing with the impressive and breathtaking dance figures of battle hip- hop.
