Today, 100 years after the outbreak of the Revolution, a contemporary performance on “faith”, through the eyes of the groundbreaking Lithuanian director, Cezaris Graužinis. A performance that attempts to reconstruct the early days of the Russian Revolution through the eyes of a common man who finds himself in the swirl of a revolution aiming to change the world.

OCTOBER
"The year 1917 was an epic, a concatenation of adventures, hopes, betrayals, unlikely coincidences, war and intrigue; of bravery and cowardice and foolishness, farce, derring-do, tragedy; of epochal ambitions and change, of glaring lights, steel, shadows; of tracks and trains."

Director’s Note

What did really happen 100 years ago in Russia?

By the representatives of different ideologies, the events of October 1917 in Petrograd are named in various ways. Anti-democratic Bolshevik Coup, the October Uprising of the Proletariat, Criminal and Canaille mutiny, the Russian Socialist Revolution, the Russian Bourgeois Revolution, etc...

Let it be.

We, the people of the theatre, leave further discussion on the true meaning of this event to the historians and, surely, to the politicians, whose job is to invent explanations of that sort...

Just as the common people, we do know that this event undoubtedly had a very strong direct impact on the reality in which our parents were living and on the world which we are beholding right now.

Creating the performance on the theme of the Great Socialist Russian Revolution we are taking a challenge to consider and reconsider the most beautiful (and the rarest, nowadays) qualities of the human existence – the enthusiasm and the belief in a possibility of achieving a better social order in the absurd world of today. With all the bittersweet irony, which, possibly, will lead us towards the tragic level of perception of the state of things.
