Tracing Limits and Possibilities
The Meeting is part of the International Network of Ancient Drama established, coordinated and supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
After the performance, there will be a discussion with the public.
Director's note
Oedipus.
Promising, young, charismatic, prestigious. He did not take power with violence, it was given to him when he solved the enigma of the Sphinx. The perfect –I dare say– leader.
But when he digs for the truth, he crosses all boundaries – public and private. And when he finds it, he takes full responsibility.
The question is: “Do we want such leaders?”. Or better: “Does the contemporary politic situation permit such leaders?”. And it does not.
Can we stand such leaders?
Who are the wise elders of the Chorus today? Are they truly wise or are they simply elected as such? As tragedy emerges, do they choose to stand together or each one decides to take a separate way?
Throughout its two-month preparation, the production functioned as an experiment: a frontal collision of the conventional middle-class environment in which we live and the tragedy that surrounds it.
