Successful presentation of the work of the ISO Theatre through an open performance > (31/08/2017)

On Wednesday, at the stage of the Theatre of the Society of Macedonian Studies the ISO Theatre (International Super Objective Theatre) presented its work through an open performance. ISO Theatre is a multicultural collective of young actors that belong to the Union of Theatres of Europe. This collective was hosted by NTNG for a week, from 23rd to 30th of August.

During their meeting in Thessaloniki, ten actors from different countries worked together on theatrical texts of four playwrights, that used the harbour (Harbour 40) as a common meeting place.

During this open performance, four stories unfolded, all based on the common topic of harbour being a common meeting place as well as a place of parting, hope, anticipation, a passing point, an opening but also a boundary or an obstacle. Spectators had the opportunity to see the unfolding of:
  • a tale, that is both a national and personal narration about crossing the borders (Text by Stefan Ivanov)
  • the stories of the women of the harbour. Prostitution and immigration. Hope for a future and anticipation for the forthcoming. “Will it come eventually?” is the question permeating this story (Text by Angeliki Darlasi)
  • the story of a man from Tunisia who attempts to settle the disputes related to his uncle’s inheritance, who was an immigrant. This man faces the complex bureaurocracy but also comes face to face with a life choice: to migrate or not? Did his uncle actually live a better life in Europe or not? (Text by Roberto Scarpetti)
  • the tragicomic dialogue between a young woman and the port authorities. She is looking for her father that was lost in the ocean. (Text by Amir Zuabi).
And all these stories, seen through the looking glass of the theatre.
Like theatre within a theatre.
