“From Darkness to Light: Eight Extracts of Ancient Tragedies”
Theatrical Group of Deaf “Crazy Colours”
Saturday 3 September, Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies

From Darkness to Light: Eight Extracts of Ancient Tragedies slip harmoniously the one into the other, with kingpin Light and Darkness. What is the reason that makes the tragic hero unable to “see” Light and live into Darkness? The tragedies Oedipus the King by Sophocles, Seven against Thebes by Aeschylus, Antigone by Sophocles, Medea by Euripides, Ajax by Sophocles, Andromache by Euripides, Bacchae by Euripides and The Persians by Aeschylus, all revolve around the tragic hero and the way he deals with free will, that he was accorded by the Gods.

Four Deaf actors, using body language as well as Sign Language, along with two Hearing actors who “lend” their voice, accompanied by music –that the Deaf actors are able to “hear” through its throb–take us on a trip into the world of tragic events that affect the relationship of man with his self as well as with nature and his fellow men and determine his responsibility for the whole world. At the same time, they offer us, Deaf and Hearing spectators alike, a special experience.
