WOYZECK by Georg Büchner Directed by Stavros Tsakiris Vassiliko Theatre 30/1/2016 (04/12/2015)

Woyzeck”: a play about the suppressed, the Proletariat, and the wronged; a play about love, murder and suicide.  Woyzeck is an original hero for the twentieth century, who haunts rock ideology, the Beatnik poets, the paintings of Jackson Pollock, the cinema and the theatre of the postmodern era. “Woyzeck”: a play with multiple stagings all over the world, adapted for the big screen (ten films), the opera (Alban Berg) and comic books. Woyzeck: the prophet of a damned army marching through our nightmare future.

The landmark play of the German theatre which, despite being written in 1836, influenced the theatrical scene of the twentieth century as few ones did is now being staged at the National Theatre of Northern Greece for the first time in a translation of Antonis Galeos, direction of Stavros Tsakiris and stage set and costume design of the artist Alexandros Psihoulis.

It is the first time worldwide that all the original text of “Woyzeck”, including all the four drafts Büchner left, is presented in a single performance.

The translation of Antonis Galeos was made especially for this performance as ordered by the NTNG.
