The world is in crisis, at risk of famine due to extreme rainfall that destroys the crops. The government decides to investigate the causes of low productivity. They send William Blore, a foxfinder, to visit Judith and Samuel Covey, whose harvest has failed to meet their target. Trained from childhood, William is an expert in investigating suspected fox infestations. He tries to find out if the Convey’s farm is infected by the “red beast” vulpes - vulpes. However, as his investigation progresses, long-repressed inner truths are revealed and upset the very delicate balance of the couple and between them and their close friend Sarah.
