'The Night of the Iguana' takes place in a remote shore of Mexico round 1940. There the three principal characters of the play meet. A sensual and sexually insatiable widow, a compromised and erotically deprived old maid and an excommunicated priest due to sexual sins. These three marginal individuals live in a world where deprivation, loneliness, alcoholism, lechery, paranoia, fetishism and nymphomania prevail. Within this damned scenery, Williams makes a deep psychograph of the despair and the deadlocks of his heroes, condemning them in a painful struggle without any catharsis.
