Theatre Workshop of the NTNG (28/11/2007)

The presentations – rehearsals of the NTNG Theatre Workshop begin on December 3rd in Thessaloniki at the Royal Theatre’s substage. They are the outcome of the Workshop’s first cycle research and theatrical application which began in October 2007 and revolved around the parallel readings of two theatrical texts, written in the 18th and 20th century, namely, Marivaux’s La Dispute – Sarah Kane’s Cleansed: a parallel reading.

What happens when an 18th century classicist of form (Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux) meets with the subversive and deconstructive spirit of an extreme personality of our times (Sarah Kane)? Under what circumstances can two texts converse? How can one be “read” through the other? What surprises arise from the inquiry of innocence and what knowledge does the experience of betrayal bring?

The NTNG Theatre Workshop was instituted in October 2007 for the theoretical and practical study of theatrical texts through various contemporary acting approaches. The main axis of inquiry of this process of research is the amalgamation of classical and contemporary theatrical plays. Coordinating the workshop is director Niketi Kontouri.

The research includes three thematic cycles which examine various periods of theatre dramaturgy and focus on the interaction of classical and contemporary texts in order to achieve a new reading – approach of these texts.
