Macedonia-Thrace Unit

For purposes of national importance and cultural necessity, the National Theatre of Northern Greece resurrects the institution of Units in the winter of 2010 after 26 years that their activities have been suspended.
The institution was first established in the autumn of 1977 in Komotini with the theatre of Thrace, aiming at theatrical decentralization and was in effect until 1984.
The creation of a single Macedonia-Thrace Unit aims at the permanent presence of a state theatre stage in the frontier areas of Northern Greece, thus contributing in the creation of a new perspective concerning the role of theatre in our country.
This year the Macedonia-Thrace Unit of the NTNG presents the Stories to Bear, three one-act plays by Anton Chekhov dominated by the diachronic dynamics of comedy and the playwright’s profound love for the duties, lost hopes and ambiguities of human existence.

The citizens’ accessibility to theatre events is a fundamental priority driving the NTNG’s initiative. We would like to invite all residents, institutional bodies, Municipalities, Prefectures and Communities of Macedonia and Thrace to embrace this effort. The NTNG Unit concerns them all. Because a theatre of national interest is a spiritual legacy which belongs to each and every one of us.
