''BIG DAYS'' THEMATIC EVENTS – BERTOLT BRECHT TRIBUTE (30/10/2013)

 
The honorary tribute to Bertolt Brecht, which inaugurates the “BIG DAYS” set of actions by the National Theatre of Northern Greece, will take place at the Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies (foyer, 6th & 7th floors), on Saturday November 2, 2013, and will include a series of events lasting from 10:00 in the morning till 5.00 in the afternoon. The tribute is organised to coincide with a performance of The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui, at the Vassiliko (Royal) Theatre.

The activities scheduled in the context of the Bertolt Brecht Tribute are the following:
  • 10:00–11:00 (1st corridor, 6th floor): “Brecht for Beginners”—Drama game for primary school children, led by the actress Despina Saroglou.
  • 11:00–14:00 (2nd corridor, 7th floor): “Take a position”—Psychodrama for adults, led by the psychologist Fotini Papacharalampous.
  • 11:00–11:30 (Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, Foyer): Staging of an extract from Bertolt Brecht's play The Causasian Chalk Circle, by the YMCA Theatrical Workshop for Teenagers.. The YMCA Theatrical Workshop for Children will also participate.
  • 11:30–13:00 (1st corridor 6th floor): Educational drama for teenagers, based on Brecht's text He Who Says Yes/He Who Says No, led by the theatrologist and teacher Stella Papadimitriou.
  • 13:00–13:30 (Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies Foyer): Presentation of Bertolt Brecht's work A Short Organum for the Theatre, by the actor Christos Daraktsis.
  • 13.30–15.00 (1st corridor, 6th floor): Educational drama for teachers and adults, based on Brecht's -play He Who Says Yes/He Who Says No, led by the theatrologist and teacher Sella Papadimitriou.
  • 15.30–17.00 (Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, Foyer): Round Table: “Epic Theatre: theory and practice,” with Katerina Zachu, Assistant Professor of German Literature and Culture at the School of German Language and Literature, Faculty of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Yorgos Kafkas, actor; Yannis Margaritis, director; Efi Stamouli, Professor, School of Drama, Faculty of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; and Alexandros Tsakiris, actor. Director Anestis Azas and actor/director Prodromos Tsinikoris will join the activity online.
 
Simultaneously, the following events are scheduled from 10:00 to 17:00.
  • Screening of Audiovisual Material from:  rehearsals of Mother Courage and Her Children, staged at Delacorte Theatre, New York, in 2006, featuring Meryl Streep in the title role (Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, main entrance); a short presentation of the “epic theatre” (foyer); various performances of Bertolt Brecht's plays (2nd corridor, 6th floor).   • Performance of some of the best-known songs that marked the staging of plays by Bertolt Brecht (foyer).
  • Exhibition of photographs that aim to visualise the writer's poems, organised by the Museum of Photography, Thessaloniki (foyer).
  • Exhibition of scenery and costumes designed for Bertolt Brecht's plays staged by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (foyer.)
  • Exhibition of sets and costumes designed for Bertolt Brecht's plays staged by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (foyer).
  • “Installing Brecht”: artistic conception of Bertolt Brecht's works, by Marina Konta and Paulina Milona.
  • Sale of programmes and posters from previous performances by the National Theatre of Northern Greece of Bertolt Brecht's plays (foyer).
The supervision of venues hosting the tribute’s events has been undertaken by Marina Konta and Paulina Milona.
 
 
The following cultural institutions have supported the NTNG in this venture: the Museum of Photography, Thessaloniki; the State Museum of Contemporary Art; the Goethe-Institut, Thessaloniki; the YMCA Thessaloniki; the School of German Language and Literature, the Faculty of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; the School of Drama, Faculty of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; the Drama School of the NTNG; as well as “Protoporia” bookstore.
 
Anyone interested in participating in the Drama game for primary school children (maximum 20 children), in the Educational drama for teenagers (maximum 15 people per group), and in the Psychodrama for adults (maximum 25 people), is kindly requested to register by calling +30 2315 200 008, from Tuesday 29/10 to Friday 1/11, 2013, from 13:00 to 15:00. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

All events are admission-free and open to the public.
