PP0681P0001v01
1. “PEACE” by Aristophanes
Aristophanes’ anti-war utopian comedy “Peace” will be this summer’s offering from the National Theatre of Northern Greece. The play will be presented in the translation of Κ. H. Myris and is directed by Sotiris Hatzakis.

This is an extremely timely work, starring Vassilis Haralambopoulos (Trygaeus) and Fanis Mouratidis (Hermes) along with a large troupe of actors and dancers.
The play’s choral parabasis is by Giorgos Konstantinou.

The production will premiere at the Ancient Theatre of Philippi (July 5-6) to open the Festival of Philippi-Thasos, and will then make a grand summer tour of all the festivals in every region of Greece. “Peace” will be presented in Thessaloniki at the Dassos Theatre (Forest Theatre of Thessaloniki) on July 10 & 11 and at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on July 26 & 27, as part of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival. The play's summer tour will culminate during the first two weeks of September with performances in Attica and at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens.

Summary of the play
War has imprisoned the goddess Peace in a cave and is preparing to throw the Greek cities into a huge pestle and give them a terrible pounding. At that moment, Trygaeus, a vine-keeper, ascends to heaven with the god Hermes and calls upon the Greeks to set Peace free. The liberation of the goddess Peace, along with Opora, the goddess of fruitfulness, and Theoria, the goddess of festivals, comprises the heart of the play. The comedy ends with the return to earth of the triumphant Trygaeus, who brings the goddess Peace back to men.

“Leprentis” is a post-revolutionary comedy marked by a satirization of the 19th century Bavarian Occupation and the Greek ruling class. The protagonist of the play is a rich and ugly old man who falls in love with a beautiful young girl. Against this backdrop parades a series of neighbourhood characters, who take advantage of the old man's weakness to try to make some money from him. These efforts become the occasion for numerous comical scenes, complemented by live music and songs.

4. “P.I.G.S Revolution” by the BAND-ages group

The musical-theatrical production “P.I.G.S Revolution”, which was presented for three consecutive seasons with great success by the BAND-ages group within the framework of the alternative activities of NTNG, will continue its presentations this summer with guest performances at select festivals throughout Greece.

BAND-ages is a group of young actors and musicians at NTNG who act, dance and sing with great verve and brio, satirizing with frenetic rhythm the nightmare of a “bankrupt” reality colliding with the major and minor piggishness of our political culture - and of human nature in general. Armed with fast-paced dialogue, innovative orchestrations and exuberant choreography, the P.I.G.S BAND-ages will continue to deploy their brand of madcap revolution against the grim reality that surrounds us.

5. “SOCIAL THEATRE SHOP”

NTNG will continue to offer its programme “Social Theatre Shop”, a Social Solidarity Theatre initiative by actors of NTNG in which the public attending the productions is invited to bring, in lieu of tickets, food products with an extended shelf life, which are then contributed to various social-welfare organizations.
During the summer of 2013, performances of “Social Theatre Shop” will continue to be staged on the outskirts of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and in neighbouring towns.

6. “IN-HOUSE” THEATRE
NTNG, within the framework of its social policy, continues to offer a variety of activities (in our city, throughout the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, in neighbouring municipalities and in other prefectures of northern Greece) in which the aim is to provide access to theatrical productions and activities to groups who normally do not have such access. NTNG feels that the participation of citizens, especially those with ill health, in expressions of culture such as theatre is important for their quality of life and social reintegration.

In the summer of 2013, with the financial support of the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the “In-House” Theatre programme will expand its presence and activities in central municipalities throughout the prefectures of Macedonia and Thrace.

• Detailed information will soon be available concerning the theatrical venues that will be hosting the summer productions of NTNG
