The relationship between playwright Alfred Zarry –predecessor of surrealism- and the renowned Spanish painter Juan Miro will be explored in two open discussions held by the National Theatre of Northern Greece and Telloglio Arts Foundations of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The first open discussion entitled Zarry the King will take place at the theatre foyer of Moni Lazariston on Thursday January 14th 2010 at 18.30. The speakers are actors Argyris Gaganis, Maria Karamitri and Kostas Hatzisavvas and the curator of Telloglio Arts Foundation Dr. Panagiotis Mpikas.
The second open discussion entitled “Miro and Zarry: An inevitable attraction”, will take place at Telloglio Arts Foundation on Monday January 18th at 20.00 and speakers will be the Managing Director of Telloglio Foundation Alexandra Goulaki-Voutyra, the NTNG Repertoire-International Relations Manager and Ph.D. candidate at the Theatre Studies Department of AUTH Amalia Kontogianni and actors Maria Karamitri and Argyris Gaganis.
Alfred Zarry’s subversive work “Ubu the King” has inspired the great Catalan artist Juan Miro who was influenced by the central character of the play, King Ubu and depicted caricature images of dictator Franco, thus expressing his dissidence to the regime.
The discussions will be held in terms of the cooperation protocol between the NTNG and Telloglio Foundation at the same time that the Experimental Stage of the NTNG stages Alfred Zarry’s play “Ubu the King” directed by Giannis Paraskevopoulos and the greatest Miro exhibition ever to be organized in Greece takes place under the title “Majorca’s Miro” at Teloglio Arts Foundation with works by the great artist Juan Miro. Among the works exhibited are Miro’s sketches inspired by Zarry’s play.
The exhibition visitors of “Majorca’s Miro” at Telloglio should be informed that upon display of the entrance coupon, they are entitled to a discount theatre ticket of 8 euros at the performance of the NTNG “Ubu the King” and respectively the performance audience have upon display of their ticket a discount entrance fee to Telloglio of 2,5 euros.
