A brief note on the play

"Iphigenia in Tauris", which was one of the most famous plays during antiquity, doesn’t have the overall features one could easily include it among the classical tragedies. It was written during a quite difficult era for the Athenean democracy, and it could be briefly described as a suggestion for hope and tender comfort by Euripides. It concerns of a play of mastery formation, full of lyricism, which stood as a benchmark for the later European humanistic tradition and the Enlightenment as well. During our times, such brutalities that take part "in the land of Taurus" have been unfortunately considered less and less mythical, and the mobilization of intelligence and ethos, as well as, the denial of illogical violence, that leads the main characters of the play in a favorable ending, seem more than welcomed.
