'The Crucible' is based on the pursuit of magic and a series of trials of Salem in Massachusetts, in 1960. All this has to do with the contemporary story of McCarthy. The hero of the play faces a division between the laws of judging himself or being criticized by society, the man/ woman relation, and the family led to the extremes, because of the social oppression. What he searches is the human integrity and the love of his wife. The end though is death. As in his other plays, here, too, the main character is driven to commit suicide under the pressure of the written and the unwritten laws of society.
