Iphigenia in Tauris - Euripides
Repeat: Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies, 18/10/1972
Launch: Ancient Theatre of Philippi, Kavala, 22/07/1972

Artemis steals Iphigeneia in an marvelous way from the altar of sacrifice and moves to barbaric land of Taurida, where she is obliged by King Thoa to do human sacrifices, leading to slaughter Greek prisoners of war. The victim becomes victimizer. Orestes reaches Taurida after the order of Apollonas to steal from the temple the holy statue of the Goddess. He is arrested along with friend Pyladis and they are in danger of getting sacrificed by Iphigeneia. Once again a tragic poet will lead human existence to the edge of cliff, where not only life is in danger, but also the sense of human presence in the world. What follows is a sequence of turnovers, something that looks like a repeated motif in all tragedies, with ultimate example Oedipus Tyrannous.
