A love, family, national, philosophical and metaphysic tragedy. A deep psychological analysis, and a bloodstained adventure. A play where a lot of problems are touched such as politics, violence, ethics, and the dispute upon the distance of theory and action, upon the final purpose of life. The father of Hamlet, king of Denmark, is assassinated unexpectedly and his throne goes to his brother Claudius. Then, the ghost of the father denounces the murder by his brother and his wife and asks Hamlet to take revenge for his death. After intense conscience conflicts, Hamlet will kill the murderers, and stirring events will take place in the palace, leading to Hamlet's barbarous murder. The deaths in the end of the tragedy wash out the social rot, revealed during the cultural struggle, and derived by the central power of Denmark. Hamlet, in an unethical, barbarous and decayed environment, becomes finally the tragic victim, of the distance between his unreasonable actions and his logic. The play is full of contradictions and conflicts, which defy political interpretations and leave margins for various 'readings'. Shakespeare has the capacity to found with universal criteria multifaceted characters and complicated situations. Besides, this wide variety of problems, and multilevel action, explain, too, the large number of interpretations that the play defies till today.
